Kumbhalgarh Fort

One of the most popular places to visit in Kumbhalgarh that is perched at 1900 meters above sea level, was built by the Rana Kumbha of Mewar dynasty. This gorgeous and mammoth fort is enclosed by a huge wall stretching for 30 kms, also listed as one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites with numerous temples and palaces located inside the fort where tourists can enjoy a panoramic view of the hills.

Mammadev Temple

Located right below the Kumbhalgarh Fort, Mammadev Temple is known for its beautiful architecture and interiors, was built by Rana Kumbha in 1460, this temple boasts of intricate sculptures. The temple has two cenotaphs or ‘chhatris’ in memory of famous rulers Rana Kumbh and Prithviraj Chauhan. With block inscriptions of the history of the Mewar clan, the pillars were later transported to Udaipur museum.

Badal Mahal

A part of the Kumbhalgarh Fort that attracts a large number of tourists for its astounding architecture and grandeur, it is a 2 storied palace located on top of the fort and is widely known for its colourful murals and breath-taking views. The palace is airy – well ventilated and so is called Badal Mahal or The Palace of Clouds. The palace is divided into two sections: Zanana for the women folk and Mardana for the men of the royal clan.

Neelkanth Mahadev Temple

Another beautiful and serene place to visit in Kumbhalgarh that is dedicated to Lord Shiva and dates back to 1458, the temple has an open mandapa, a sanctum, pillars with inscriptions, six feet high Shiva Linga made of stone and entrances on all four sides. The place is surely one of the most charming places to see in Kumbhalgarh.

Vedi Temple

Dedicated to Goddess Vedi, this beautiful Jain temple is located close to Hanuman Gate of the fort and was built by Rana Kumbh, this temple was renovated by Maharana Fateh Singh in later years. Presently, this 3-storied temple is considered as the only surviving relic of all the sacrificial sites of India.

Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary

Sprawling over 578 sq km, encircling the fort, the sanctuary is a haven for thrill and adventure – this wildlife sanctuary is home to varied flora and fauna. Initially a hunting ground for royal families, the sanctuary has exotic wildlife species like wolves, leopards, sloth bear, nilgai, deer, chinkara, jungle cat and more than 200 bird species as well such as grey jungle fowl, dove, peacocks, parakeets, wild breasted kingfishers and golden oriole etc.

Parshuram Temple

A place believed to be used by Rishi Parshuram for meditation, the Parshuram Temple is a must visit attraction during your day trip to Kumbhalgarh – devoted to Lord Shiva this cave temple has shrines of Lord Ganesh and nine holy kunds that never dry out. One needs to climb down approximately 500 steps to reach this amazing temple.

Mucchal Mahavir Temple

Situated inside Kumbhalgarh Wildlife Sanctuary, this Jain temple is yet another beautiful sightseeing destination that has a pretty temple and the statues of elephants, guarding the main entrance worth seeing. But the unique attraction of this temple is the main deity, a huge idol of Mahavira, located inside the temple has a mustache and hence, the name of the temple is Muchhal Mahavir.

Ranakpur Jain Temple

Pious pilgrimage destinations for Jains that is spread over an area of 4,500 square yards and consists of 29 halls and is amongst the five major pilgrim locations of the Jains. Built in honour of the first Tirthankar of the present half-cycle or ‘avasarpi’, Adinath this temple was built in the 15th century when this region was ruled by the Rajput monarch Rana Kumbha. The construction of the temple was later undertaken by a Jain businessman Dhanna Shah.

Nathdwara Temple

A prominent Vaishnavite shrine, Shrinathji temple is home to the 7-year-old ‘infant’ incarnation of Lord Krishna – originally worshipped at Mathura, the deity was moved here along the Yamuna in 1672 AD. Though the darshan queues are usually long, the spiritual vibe of this pious place and immense faith keep the devotees going.
